Random songs on my iTunes has taken me to listening to Jonathan Coulton, the mastermind behind Still Alive (Portal) and Want you Gone (Portal 2). Coulton’s style is something of an indie country laid-back nerdfest with some great songs. Of course most noted as writing Still Alive, rated one of the most memorable game soundtracks ever, he has had a number of other popular pieces.
Code Monkey tells the story of a computer programmer who dislikes his job but likes one of his fellow employees even though she’s not interested.
Re: Your Brains is a memo sounding one-sided conversation between Bob, who’s recently become a zombie; and Tom, who worked in the same building as Bob but now has blockaded himself and a bunch of people inside a mall. It tells a sweet-sounding story of Bob giving Tom reasons why he should give up and let Bob eat his brains.
Baby got Back is a beautifully bango-based ballad based on the hit Sir Mix Alot song. You would never realise this was even a cover until you really listen to the words. The chorus is haunting but wonderfully remixed from the original. If only looking to check out one song then this would be it.
